Congressman Byron Donalds, representing Florida’s 19th district, has shared a trio of legislative initiatives and critiques via social media in recent days. Donalds, a U.S. Congress member since 2021, took to Twitter to announce a new bill aimed at enhancing transparency and oversight regarding foreign gifts. Additionally, Donalds criticized the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), proposing its repeal.
On March 25, 2025, Donalds announced "I'm proud to introduce H.R. 2291 – 'The Bipartisan GARD Act.'" This legislation takes corrective action to address the Biden administration's lack of transparency & abuse of current foreign gift disclosure guidelines." The congressman referenced an exclusive report from Fox News related to this legislative move.
In an almost simultaneous post on March 25, 2025, Donalds offered further insights into the proposed bill, stating "H.R. 2291 – 'The Bipartisan GARD Act' is my 11th piece of legislation introduced during the 119th Congress." He also acknowledged the support from co-lead Congressman Jared Golden and encouraged followers to access the complete text of the legislation through a provided link.
Later, on March 27, 2025, Donalds criticized the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, stating that the agency lacks accountability. He remarked "CFPB is a rogue agency that was created on a partisan basis before full context of the financial crisis was realized. It's a regulatory behemoth with no oversight or accountability." In light of these beliefs, he has introduced HR 1603, dubbed "The Repeal CFPB Act," which seeks the agency's dissolution.
