Incident: Suspicious Packages
Location: Mistletoe Court
Date/Time of Incident: Wednesday, September 7, 2022
Marco Island Police and Fire Rescue responded to a single-family residence on Mistletoe Court. The resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, reported two suspicious packages were delivered to their home by two separate companies.
The area was evacuated safely for the duration of the investigation. Collier County Bomb Squad was notified, responded, and declared both packages contained footwear. Hazmat units checked the packages for any biological substances which were negative.
After further investigation, United Postal Service stated this is a common scam where items are sent to unsuspecting persons in an attempt to get them to pay for the items.
The area was cleared and secured at 3:45 p.m.
