The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) announced that the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) granted the State's request for a Disaster Declaration, which makes Economic Injury Disaster Loans available to businesses impacted by the Tropicana Flea Market fire that occurred in Miami on July 7, 2022.
“Empowering Florida’s small businesses and getting them back on their feet in the aftermath of a disaster is a critical component of disaster recovery,” said FDEM Director Kevin Guthrie. “These low-interest loans provide small businesses with the assistance they need to rebuild and get their businesses running again.”
Economic Injury Disaster Loans help small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture, and most private, non-profit organizations of all sizes meet their ordinary and necessary financial obligations that cannot be met as a direct result of the disaster. The Disaster Declaration granted to the state provides relief in the form of these low-interest loans to Miami-Dade County and the adjacent Broward, Collier and Monroe counties.
To assist businesses affected by the Tropicana Flea Market fire, the SBA will open a Business Recovery Center (BRC) in Miami-Dade County on August 18, 2022, at the Miami-Dade County Model City Branch Library located at 2211 NW 54th Street.
Applicants may apply online using the Electronic Loan Application (ELA) via SBA’s secure website and should apply under SBA declaration #17571. Disaster loan information and application forms can also be obtained by calling the SBA’s Customer Service Center at 800-659-2955 or sending an email to DisasterCustomerService@sba.gov. Loan applications can also be downloaded here.
The filing deadline to return economic injury applications is May 15, 2023.
