Avow announced it received a $10,000 grant from Bank of America to help fund adult bereavement services through the Avow Center for Grief Support and the Avow Kids grief and loss program for children ages 5-17.
“This grant can provide up to 100 hours of group or individual support sessions for adults and send at least 15 grieving teenagers to Avow’s Teen Camp MendingHeart®. It’s an amazing opportunity for Avow and Avow kids to spread access to our no-cost help for people experiencing loss in our community,” said Avow Chief Philanthropy Officer Annalise Smith.
In 2021, Avow served 1,468 unique individual adults on their grief and loss journey with 930 virtual and in-person sessions, 865 support groups, and nearly 7,500 check-in phone calls. Avow’s Center for Grief Support served 43% more adults in 2021 than the previous year. That same year, Avow Kids helped 373 grieving children with 279 group support sessions and 51 camps or events.
These grants are a part of Bank of America’s commitment to responsible growth as it works to improve the financial lives of individuals, families and entire communities. By partnering with nonprofits, local organizations, and leaders across the public and private sectors of Southwest Florida, the bank consistently works to address basic needs, including grief support, food insecurity and affordable housing.
“The need for Avow’s critical services in Collier County has increased exponentially in past years, partly due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Gerri Moll, President, Bank of America Southwest Florida. “This funding will enable Avow to expand its reach and ability to help individuals and families cope with loss through a variety of care support options including therapy sessions, workshops and activities.”
