Florida Gulf Coast University Athletics issued the following announcement on Oct. 28.
Eagles part of field with five top-60 programs at the prestigious Ocean Club Golf Course.
The FGCU men's golf team will close out the fall campaign in style as the Eagles begin the White Sands Bahamas Invitational on Friday morning at the Ocean Club Golf Course on Paradise Island. The event will run three days for the 54-holes and will feature five top-60 programs in the field.
Hosted by the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, the Bahamas Invitational will begin on Friday morning at 8 AM with a shotgun start. Live scoring will be available through www.GolfStat.com.
The Eagles enter the weekend ranked No. 68 in the first GolfStat national rankings of the year. FGCU has finished second in its last two tournaments – The Graeme McDowell Invitational and the BMW Collegiate Invitational.
Austin Cherichella (Orlando, Fla./Lake Nona HS) and Brady Madsen (Raymond, Minn./MacCray HS/Winona State) are leading the Eagles overall this year with 73.11 scoring averages through nine rounds played. Lucas Fallotico (Cernusco Sul Naviglo, Italy/Istituto Comprensivo Aldo Moro Seregno) played in the BMW Collegiate Invitational where he averaged 71.33 strokes per round.
Pierre Viallaneix (Apopka, Fla./Winter Park HS/Western Carolina) and Jon Hopkins (Bishop's Stortford, England/Mississippi Gulf Coast CC) will round out the scoring squad for the Eagles. Viallaniex tied for seventh at the BMW Invitational to lead the Eagles and has a 73.67 scoring average this season. Hopkins is averaging 74.11 strokes per round this season.
Henry Tschopp (Rapperswil-Jona, Switzerland/Western Texas College/Dodge City CC) will make his first appearance of the season as an individual alongside Thomas Salanito (Palm Harbor, Fla./Clearwater Central Catholic), who holds a 73.67 scoring average this season, who will be playing in his third tournament of the season.
Following the Bahamas Invitational, the Eagles will be off until returning to competition on Jan. 31-Feb. 1 at the Sea Best Invitational hosted by Jacksonville.
