Mullings Named ASUN Men’s Soccer Player of the Week

1

Florida Gulf Coast University Athletics issued the following announcement on Sept. 22.

Senior forward tallies four goals during the week including pair in win over Jacksonville.

After scoring four goals in two games and helping the FGCU men's soccer team to a win over Jacksonville to open the league schedule, senior forward O'Vonte Mullings (Toronto, Ontario/Northview Heights) was tabbed the ASUN Player of the Week on Monday.

"This honor was well deserved; O'Vonte has worked hard to come into form since August and is now taking on a big responsibility leading our attack," said head coach Jesse Cormier. "His movement has been excellent and his willingness to work for the team is so important for us."

Mullings opened the week with a pair of goals in a 3-2 overtime loss at FAU. He scored two more in the 2-0 win over Jacksonville. For the week, he had eight points on his four goals while seeing 179 minutes on the pitch.

His four goals on the week moved him into second all-time at FGCU as he now has 26 in his four seasons. Mullings passed Shak Adams who had 23 from 2016-19. He also now has 58 career points which puts him four shy of passing Adams (62) there as well. Albert Ruiz holds the FGCU career records for both goals (34) and points (76) from 2014-17.

Overall this season, Mullings has a team-leading five goals and 10 points in 499 minutes. He currently ranks second in the ASUN in goals (5) and tied for second in points (10).

This marked the fourth time in his career that Mullings earned the Player of the Week honor marking a FGCU program-record.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 25 when they head to Liberty. The match is set for a 6 PM start.
