Community High School of Naples issued the following announcement on Sept. 15.
CSN’s Scuba Gang is a family affair growing in both size and impact. The newest certified gang members are Joey Carvelli ’28 whose sister Adrianna ‘26 is also a diver, Valentina Kontos ’28 whose sister Anastasia ‘26 and both parents are divers, and Nash Sterret ‘28. Nash is the first in his family to be certified, but his dad is interested in taking the plunge after snorkeling alongside his son.
Other Scuba Gang family dive buddies include Lucan Keyser ‘23 and his parents, Katie Whitener ’24 and her dad, Teddy Potocki ’24 and his dad, Xavier Bailey ’24 and his dad, Ali Lagergren ’23 and her dad, sisters Karina ’26 and Hanna ’26 Hagenbuckle and their dad, Wyatt ’25 and Grace ’26 Cunningham and their parents, siblings Priya ’25 and Adrian ’27 Deonarine, Ana Vlad ‘25 and her sister, Ovie Aldea ’29 and his mom, Sophia Korunda ’25 and her parents, Julian Miller ‘25 and his parents, Theo Tholt ’27 and his parents, and Lucie Norman ’26 and her mom. Teachers Ms. Staber, Ms. Stasik, Ms. Stevens, and their husbands, along with Ms. Panek, her husband, and sons Daniel ’26 and Nathan ’23 are all divers. Click here to see lots of underwater photos.
CSN families and friends exploring the ocean together make memories that last a lifetime. That shared time alone is a great reason to dive, but Scuba Gang is about much more. The club participates in coral restoration out-planting events throughout the year. Students also participate in ocean debris removal dives; and in the spring, the club will work with reef.org to be trained to remove invasive lionfish. Next summer CSN divers will collaborate with “Youth Diving with a Purpose” to gather data on the substrate, invertebrates, fish, and coral in the Florida Keys Marine Sanctuary.
Congratulations to the four Scuba Gang scholarship recipient teachers Mr. Major and Ms. MacLean and students Lizzie Howard ’27 and Josie Byers’25! Welcome to the gang!
There are two SCUBA certification courses offered in the spring. For more information email jstevens@communityschoolnaples.org for more information.
