Goodson Unveils 2021 Cross Country Schedule

Florida Gulf Coast University Athletics issued the following announcement on Aug. 18.

Head men's and women's cross country coach Cassandra Goodson has finalized and announced the fall 2021 schedule that is set to start at FAU on Wednesday, September 1.

FGCU will compete in three regular-season meets before the start of the ASUN Championship on Saturday, October 30.

"We're excited to get another chance to compete!" said Goodson. "We are looking forward to going back to FAU. FSU will give us a highly competitive meet on a championship course. Having the conference championships at Disney will be a fun experience for the teams".

Leading up to the postponement of the 2020 season, the Eagles had opened their season at the FAU Invitational in four consecutive seasons. Fast forward to now, they will toe the starting line on Sept. 1 in Boca Raton. In 2018, the men's side place first while finishing second in 2019.

Following a break of just over two weeks, FGCU will travel to the state capitol to compete at the Florida State open on Sept. 17 – one of two visits to Tallahassee and the host site of the 2021 Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships. The last visit (2018) to Apalachee Regional Park was very kind to the Eagles as Carley Lutzow capped off her senior season by collecting NCAA All-Region honors after placing 16th overall. The individual finish was the second-highest in program history since 2013 where Kelly Perzanowski placed 14th.

The second trip comes on Oct. 15 for the FSU Cross Country/Pre-Nationals open as a bulk of the teams competing will be getting a firsthand look at the championship course. Lastly, it all culminates on October 30 at the ASUN Championship which will take place in Orlando at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
