COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL OF NAPLES: Once more unto the breach

Naples

Community High School of Naples issued the following announcement on Feb. 18.

Just one day after the conclusion of CSN's Writers Week 2020, Jack Carlsen '20 took second place at the English Speaking Union's Shakespeare Competition.

Now in its 21st year, this competition celebrates the poetry of the world's greatest writer by gathering some of the best high school English students in Southwest Florida to recite one speech from a play and two sonnets.

This was our school's first year of involvement in the competition, and as our school champion, Jack walked away from the regional competition on with the second-place trophy, a leather-bound copy of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, and $250.

His recitation of the Harfleur Speech from Henry V as well as Sonnets 29 and 116 impressed the judges and made him a close contender to this year's champion, who also won in 2019.  Congratulations, Jack!
