A Collier County man convicted last fall of 12 counts of filing false tax returns—for himself and hundreds of his clients—was sentenced Monday to eight years and one month in federal prison.
Augustin Dalusma, a tax preparer whose office was in Immokalee, also must repay more than $2 million to the IRS.
Dalusma was indicted in September on 15 counts and convicted in November of 12 counts of defrauding the IRS by falsifying tax returns in order for his clients, and himself, to appear to qualify for tax refunds that they in fact were not entitled to.
Prosecutors charged he also underreported his own income in order to avoid paying more than $30,000 he actually owed in federal taxes.
All in all, Dalusma defrauded the IRS on income taxes of $ 4 million from 630 clients and himself over a period of four years, 2012 through 2015.
