Congressman Byron Donalds, who represents Florida’s 19th district in the U.S. Congress, announced on September 16, 2025, that the House of Representatives passed his bill, H.R. 4922 – “The D.C. CRIMES Act,” with bipartisan support.
In a post made at 8:24 p.m. UTC on September 16, Donalds wrote: “Thank you @RepHageman for your support of my bill, H.R. 4922 – ‘The D.C. CRIMES Act.’ 18-24 year-olds shouldn’t be treated as youth offenders. Passage of this bill will go a long way in correcting the broken, soft on crime policies in our nation’s capital that coddle criminals.”
Later that evening at 8:48 p.m., he posted: “Lawlessness is a choice. It’s time for Congress to step up, adhere to our constitutional duty, and firmly address the crime in our nation’s capital. My bill, H.R. 4922 – ‘The D.C. CRIMES Act’ does just that. Adult criminals should be sentenced as adults. THIS IS COMMON SENSE.”
At 9:15 p.m., Donalds updated followers with news of the bill’s passage: “JUST NOW: The House has PASSED my bill, HR 4922 – ‘The DC CRIMES Act’ with a BIPARTISAN VOTE of 240-179. Simply put, if you’re 18-24 years-old and you commit a crime in our nation’s capital, you should be sentenced as an adult. This is common sense. We are Making DC Safe Again.”
Byron Donalds has served in Congress since replacing Francis Rooney in 2021 and previously held office in the Florida House of Representatives from 2016 to 2020. Born in Brooklyn in 1978 and currently residing in Naples, Donalds holds degrees from both Florida A&M University and Florida State University.
