Col. Allen West, executive director of the American Constitutional Rights Union and former U.S. Congressman, said President Trump deserves extraordinary credit for what he described as a dramatic and visible transformation at the southern border since taking office.
“I was just down at the border and uh Kenny County, Brackenville over to Del Rio up to Sutton County last week,” West said on the Restoration Spotlight Podcast by Restoration News. “And when you think about what was going on there, the high-speed chases, the tens of thousands of people that you saw under the bridge in Del Rio, all of these things, it’s absolutely nothing going on, nothing happening.”
According to the Texas Tribune, as many as 15,000 migrants, mostly from Haiti, crossed the Rio Grande at Del Rio and spent days under the international bridge in September 2021, sparking what was described as a full humanitarian crisis for the Biden administration.
West said the turnaround under Trump has been nothing short of remarkable and that the solution was never about passing new legislation.
“You have to give the president a 12 on a scale of 1 to 10, on what he has been able to accomplish. No, seriously,” West said. “In in just what uh six months. And you know, when everyone was talking about we need to pass new laws, no, we just needed a new president.”
According to the White House, the Trump administration has deported more than 605,000 illegal aliens since taking office, with an additional 1.9 million self-deporting, and has not released a single illegal alien into the United States for eight consecutive months.
West is a 22-year Army combat veteran, Bronze Star recipient, and former U.S. Congressman who represented Florida’s 22nd District in the 112th Congress. He currently serves as Executive Director of the American Constitutional Rights Union, a constitutional conservative organization founded to counter the ACLU.
