Congressman Byron Donalds, who represents Florida’s 19th district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media platform on September 9 and 10, 2025, to address concerns over crime in Washington, D.C., and advocate for legislative reforms.
On September 9, Donalds posted: “The legacy media is ignoring it. The far-left is deflecting. This was preventable. DON’T LOOK AWAY. This killer never should’ve been released back onto the street & he must be prosecuted to the FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW. May God rest Iryna’s soul & bring comfort to her family.”
Continuing his focus on public safety, Donalds wrote on September 10: “Today, @GOPoversight is voting to advance critical, common sense legislation out of committee and to the floor of the House for consideration that will help to MAKE DC SAFE AGAIN. This includes my bill, HR 4922 – ‘The DC CRIMES Act.’ See the stream below for live developments”
Later that day, he elaborated further: “If you’re 18-24 y/o, you are an adult. If you commit crimes as an adult, you should treated as an adult. THIS IS COMMON SENSE. But in DC, 18-24 y/o criminals can be sentenced as juveniles. My bill–HR 4922–changes this & will pass @GOPoversight today to help MAKE DC SAFE AGAIN.”
Byron Donalds has served in Congress since replacing Francis Rooney in 2021 and previously served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2016 to 2020. Born in Brooklyn in 1978 and currently residing in Naples, Donalds holds degrees from both Florida A&M University and Florida State University.
