Congressman Byron Donalds, representing Florida’s 19th district since 2021, recently announced legislative initiatives on nuclear energy. Born in Brooklyn and residing in Naples, Donalds has been active in U.S. Congress after serving in the Florida House of Representatives from 2016 to 2020.
On June 6, 2025, Congressman Donalds introduced H.R. 3667 – “The Strengthening American Nuclear Energy Act”. This bill aims to codify four executive orders by the President into law. According to his announcement, these include deploying advanced nuclear reactor technologies for national security and ordering reforms at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).
In another tweet posted on June 6, Donalds highlighted an executive order titled “Reforming Nuclear Reactor Testing at @ENERGY”. He stated that overregulation and governmental inaction have hindered development within this sector.
Additionally, he addressed another executive order focused on reforming the NRC. He mentioned that complex regulatory processes have impeded progress within the nuclear industry.
Byron Donalds graduated with a BS from Florida A&M University and later from Florida State University. He succeeded Francis Rooney as the representative of Florida’s 19th district.
