Congressman Byron Donalds, who represents Florida’s 19th district in the U.S. Congress, published a series of tweets on July 16, 2025, regarding Anthony Bernal’s deposition before the House Oversight Committee. In his posts, Donalds detailed his attendance at the closed-door session and raised concerns about alleged misconduct within the Biden administration.
In a tweet posted at 14:50 UTC on July 16, Donalds wrote: “Anthony Bernal was Jill Biden’s “work-husband,” her chief of staff, and one of the Biden family’s closest advisors. Today, he was subpoenaed to appear before @GOPoversight to discuss his role in the autopen cover-up and I attended the closed-door deposition. We deserve answers!”
Later that day at 16:29 UTC, Donalds shared further observations from the deposition: “This morning, I attended the deposition of Anthony Bernal–Jill Biden’s ‘work husband.’ These are my takeaways: He couldn’t answer A SINGLE QUESTION He refused to read his own statement This is corruption at the highest-level Joe was not in charge of his own admin Every”
By evening, Donalds continued to voice concerns over what he described as broader issues within federal governance: “Over the past 4 yrs, unelected, Deep State bureaucrats ran our country with an autopen, while an elected President sat on the sidelines in cognitive decline. This is the biggest cover-up in American history. The American people deserve answers & @GOPoversight is TAKING ACTION.”
Byron Donalds has served in Congress since 2021 after succeeding Francis Rooney and previously held office in the Florida House of Representatives from 2016 to 2020. Born in Brooklyn in 1978 and now residing in Naples, Donalds holds degrees from both Florida A&M University and Florida State University.
The House Oversight Committee has been conducting inquiries into allegations related to presidential decision-making processes and use of autopen for official documents during recent administrations.
