Congressman Byron Donalds, who represents Florida’s 19th district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media account on October 15, 2025, to criticize Democrats for their actions during the ongoing government shutdown.
Later the same day, he reiterated his position, stating, “ICYMI: Just now, Democrats voted for the 10TH-STRAIGHT-TIME to block the pay of our federal workers. The only reason that our government is shut down is because Schumer and the Democrats wanted it that way. Schumer believes every day we are shut down, ‘it gets better’ for him.”
Donalds also outlined the sequence of votes related to the shutdown: “THIS IS A DEMOCRAT SHUTDOWN: 9/19 – House GOP voted to open government 9/19 – House Democrats voted for shutdown 9/19 – Senate GOP voted to open government 9/19 – Senate Democrats voted for shutdown 9/30 – Senate GOP voted to open government 9/30 – Senate Democrats voted for”
Byron Donalds has represented Florida’s 19th district in Congress since 2021 after succeeding Francis Rooney. He previously served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2016 to 2020. Born in Brooklyn, New York City in 1978 and currently residing in Naples, Donalds holds degrees from both Florida A&M University and Florida State University.
