Congressman Byron Donalds, who represents Florida’s 19th district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed concerns about crime in Washington, D.C., through a series of posts on his official social media account.

On August 8, 2025, Donalds wrote: “For far too long, our nation’s capital has been plagued by an epidemic of violence due to the soft-on-crime policies of far-left leaders.

Weak leadership by anti-cop radicals gives rise to chaos & the reign of terror unleashed on innocent residents & visitors of DC MUST END NOW.”

In another post published the same day, Donalds stated: “Congress has a responsibility to oversee DC, and it’s imperative that we act quickly to assert control when local government fails.

My ‘DC CRIMES Act’ seeks to restore law & order to our nation’s capital & MAKE DC SAFE AGAIN.

Referencing statements from former President Donald Trump and current President Joe Biden’s administration regarding crime rates in the capital, Donalds added: “As @POTUS/@realDonaldTrump said:

‘Crime in Washington, D.C., is totally out of control. Local “youths” and gang members, some only 14, 15, and 16-years-old, are randomly attacking, mugging, maiming, and shooting innocent Citizens, at the same time knowing that they will be'”

Byron Donalds has served as a member of Congress since 2021 after replacing Francis Rooney. Before his tenure in Congress began, he was a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 2016 to 2020. Born in Brooklyn in 1978 and now residing in Naples, Donalds holds degrees from both Florida A&M University and Florida State University.
