Byron Donalds announced on April 13 a new workforce development policy initiative called LaunchPad during his “Defending the Florida Dream Tour” at the Associated Builders and Contractors Florida East Coast Chapter in Coconut Creek.
The LaunchPad initiative aims to address the need for skilled workers in Florida by creating industry-driven pathways from education to employment. The program seeks to reduce bureaucracy, expand apprenticeship opportunities, and connect Floridians with high-paying jobs without requiring tuition.
Donalds said, “Florida students deserve a direct path to a high-paying job, not a maze of paperwork and bureaucracy that slows them down. LaunchPad is about training at the speed of business, connecting students to real opportunities, and making sure every young Floridian has the chance to earn, learn, and succeed without being buried in student debt.”
According to details provided by Donalds’ campaign, employers will play a central role in identifying high-demand fields. The state will then develop partnerships and pathways needed for these industries. A dedicated task force within the Governor’s Office would coordinate efforts among schools, colleges, and employers while reviewing existing programs and removing barriers that prevent access to training.
LaunchPad comes as industries such as construction, aerospace, defense, and manufacturing face hundreds of thousands of open positions across Florida. The program is intended as a bridge between students seeking technical careers and employers struggling to fill vacancies.
The campaign describes LaunchPad as both an economic development tool for attracting new companies and an effort to keep Florida competitive by strengthening its workforce readiness.
