Congressman Byron Donalds, who represents Florida’s 19th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on January 6, 2026, addressing federal funding for public broadcasting and allegations of fraud related to Somali Care Centers in Minnesota.
In a post at 15:11 UTC, Donalds wrote, “Our hard-earned taxpayer dollars NEVER should’ve been funding this egregious politicization. JULY 2025: We voted to pass H.R. 4 / H.Res. 590 to defund politicized, taxpayer-funded media like NPR/PBS. JANUARY 2026: Corporation for Public Broadcasting is officially shutting down.”
At 15:46 UTC the same day, he addressed alleged investigations into Somali Care Centers by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), stating, “.@DHSgov is going DOOR-TO-DOOR in the Twin Cities investigating Somali Care Centers. The perpetrators of this unprecedented fraud must face justice. The American people deserve real accountability.”
Later at 16:02 UTC, Donalds criticized Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s leadership regarding these issues, posting, “Tim Walz let the Land of 10,000 Lakes become the Land of 10,000 Fraud Schemes. It’s time to ‘Turn the Page’ on this disastrous leader. The American people deserve answers and accountability for this unprecedented fraud.”
Byron Donalds has represented Florida’s 19th District in Congress since replacing Francis Rooney in 2021 and previously served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2016 to 2020. Born in Brooklyn in 1978 and currently residing in Naples, Donalds holds degrees from both Florida A&M University and Florida State University.
