U.S. Congressman Byron Donalds, who represents Florida’s 19th district, posted a series of updates on September 9, 2025, addressing local events and community initiatives in Southwest Florida.
Donalds began by honoring a fallen law enforcement officer: “In December, @CCSOFLSheriff Sgt. Elio Diaz was shot and killed in the line of duty while conducting a traffic stop on US-41. A portion of US-41 will be officially be renamed ‘Sgt. Elio Diaz Memorial Highway’ in his honor. We will never forget Sgt. Diaz’s service and sacrifice” (September 9, 2025).
Shortly after, Donalds recognized the actions of local residents following an incident involving a young girl: “We are thankful that 11 year old Mia is safe and sound after a terrifying moment at Lakes Park in Fort Myers. God bless the heroic Floridians who stepped-up to save Mia’s life in her time of need. You represent the very best of our Southwest Florida community and we salute you.” (September 9, 2025).
In another post directed toward students in his district, Donalds announced upcoming opportunities: “ATTENTION SOUTHWEST FLORIDA My office is accepting Service Academy applications for high school students due 10/10 My office is hosting an app challenge for middle & high school students. Submissions are due 10/30 & the winning app will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol” (September 9, 2025).
Byron Donalds has served as the U.S. Representative for Florida’s 19th District since replacing Francis Rooney in 2021 and previously held office in the Florida House of Representatives from 2016 to 2020. He was born in Brooklyn, New York City in 1978 and currently resides in Naples. Donalds holds degrees from both Florida A&M University and Florida State University.
