Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford endorsed Byron Donalds for Florida governor on April 23, making him the 38th sheriff in the state to support Donalds’ campaign. Ford’s endorsement joins a growing list of law enforcement officials backing Donalds, who has also received an endorsement from former President Trump.
The announcement is significant as it highlights broad support from law enforcement for Donalds’ gubernatorial bid. Support from sheriffs across the state could play a role in shaping public perception of his campaign and its focus on public safety.
“I’m proud to endorse Byron Donalds for Florida Governor. After decades in law enforcement, I know what it takes to keep our communities safe, and I know the kind of leadership that makes it possible. Byron understands that standing behind our men and women in law enforcement is the foundation of safe neighborhoods, thriving families, and strong communities. He’s committed to giving law enforcement the tools and resources we need to do our jobs effectively and get home safe at night. Byron has already proven his commitment to public safety, working alongside President Trump to strengthen public safety nationwide, and I have no doubt he will bring that same dedication to Tallahassee,” Ford said.
In addition to receiving endorsements from most Florida sheriffs, Donalds has been backed by President Trump, Charlie Kirk, Elon Musk, members of Florida’s Congressional delegation, U.S. House Leadership, a majority of Republican legislators in the Florida House, and other national conservative figures.
Donalds’ campaign reported raising $22 million during the first quarter of 2026 and said he is leading both Republican and Democratic opponents in fundraising as well as support.
